What to Look for in a Hinged Doorset for a Commercial Environment

In industry, the demands that are placed upon a door are huge. It needs to be highly secure, fire resistant, easy to open (though not easy to open for burglars!), attractive if you see clients at your building, well insulated… the list goes on. Hinged doorsets are especially important to buy with all these demands in mind; a simple domestic front door design simply will not do. It’s so important you bear all of this in mind when choosing a hinged door for a busy and demanding commercial environment.

Why is a commercial environment so demanding, then? It’s largely to do with the regulations you will have to meet. These will differ depending on your specific industry, but there will be fire regulations, safety regulations, British Standards… myriad regulations that you need to know about. And you really do need to know about them, as this will come into your buying decision. If you are buying a door as a business owner, then it is entirely your responsibility to make sure it meets with all the regulations that are important within your specific industry environment.

What should you look for in a hinged door for your commercial environment?

There are some key things that every business owner will want to understand before buying a commercial doorset. One of the main things is for you to determine what you want to get out of it for your business. Is the guarantee important? Do you need the door to last a certain number of years? Do you need it to keep your building at a certain level of insulation? Whatever it might be, it will be specific for you, so only you can determine a set of aims for your door. If you don’t do this, how are you mean to have a starting point? Remember that the commercial door market is enormous, and in order to go about penetrating it, you must go in with clarity and ideas.

You should make sure you choose the correct material for your door. Often, hinged doorsets will be made from steel which is an excellent choice. Strong and durable, steel doorsets should last you well into the future when properly installed into the opening. Usually, timber is simply not going to be strong enough, but you might choose other options like aluminium or GRP fibreglass.

Make sure the door is going to provide adequate insulation. Look for the material rating and understand how well it is going to insulate your space. If you are installing the door in a space where the environment needs to be ambient, such as a warehouse that store perishable products, then you will have to be even more careful about the buying decisions you make. This type of information is all readily available from suppliers and all doors should come complete with documentation to help you in understanding what a particular doorset will be able to do for you.

It’s also important that you know the exact measurements you are shopping for. Most manufacturers will have guides to help you measure up, then fit your door once you have purchased it.
