Could you be saving money and saving the planet?

Everywhere you look recently we are being told to reduce our energy usage and become more aware of the impact of some of our practices on the environment. As energy prices soar we need to be looking for ways to save money in our home energy usage whilst also considering how in some small way we can reduce our carbon footprint.

One simple way to improve the energy efficiency of a property is to replace draughty doors and windows with new double or triple glazed units as the amount of heat that is lost through ill-fitting windows and doors is immense. This relatively straightforward improvement can save most households money and also increase the value of the property.

A popular way to save money on energy bills is to use renewable energy either by installing solar panels on the roof of the property or by converting the existing water based boiler system to one that uses an air source heat pump. Although these energy efficient systems are costly initially after a few years they will save the householder money on energy bills. It is worth researching whether there are Government initiatives which offer grants to upgrade heating systems available as this can reduce installation costs.
