PVC windows are very common in the UK and are often fitted into a modern home. They are made from PVC and plastic and will usually be double glazed, meaning that they are thermally efficient. A new set of PVC windows can make an enormous difference to your house’s energy rating. They will also last a very long time, usually around to 20 year mark, though some can last a lot longer.
Whilst PVC is going to look good on a newer property, it may not look right on an older one. Victorian and Edwardian homes may look slightly out of place with a new PVC window. In this case, you may prefer a sash or casement window. These are made of wood and will look much more in keeping. They are notorious for letting in lots of cold air, so new ones will make a really noticeable difference to the temperature inside.
